All 8th grade students in Escambia County (public and private schools) are invited and encouraged to attend the WFHS Open House this fall. The date has not been determined as of yet. Continue to check this website for updates.

HOW TO APPLY

Parents and 8th grade Escambia County students:  You will receive a letter in the mail that gives specific admission and application information.  You should receive this information in the mail in September 2008.

Parents and 8th grade private school students:  You may come by the school after September 2008 to pick up the letter of information or you may call the school to request a packet be mailed to you


APPLICATION

Only the Escambia County School District approved application will be accepted. 

Where do I get an application?
Applications will be available in September 2008

Important things to remember about the application:
Must be filled out with a #2 pencil.
Must not be bent!
Must be filled out completely.
Must be returned to West Florida High School in person or by mail.
Remember, if you mail the application to the school, you must use a large envelope so that the application is not bent.

SELECTION OF STUDENTS

Current 8th grade students meeting the WFHS admission requirements whose applications are received by the determined deadline will be eligible applicants.
 
From this group of eligible applicants, the Escambia County School Choice Office will conduct the first lottery selection in January 2009.  Students selected in this lottery will be notified by mail.

Students who do not meet the WFHS admission requirements and those students not selected for admission by the lottery process will be notified by mail.


ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission to West Florida High School of Advanced Technology, students currently enrolled in 2008-2009 8th grade must:

  • Successfully complete all core academic subjects with at least an average grade of 70 in each subject.
  • Be able to achieve a regular high school diploma (meet Sunshine State Standards).
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance, not to exceed 8 unexcused absences per semester
  • Receive satisfactory teacher recommendations when requested.
  • Have no serious discipline infractions and no history of repeated infractions during grades 7-8.

 

NOTE: Charter, private, and home school applicants must contact WFHS for information regarding required documentation such as standardized test scores, portfolio, and/or transcripts.
