Success in COX Communications

All students will be required to participate in cognitive competencies quizzes. These assessments will help the students demonstrate their knowledge of content outlined in the objectives in each lesson. Students will be provided with detailed handouts that will include instructions and due dates. All students will also be required to participate in performance competencies. These competencies will help the students demonstrate their skill proficiencies outlined in each lesson. I will be utilizing checklists to confirm the student is able to perform the tasks necessary for the job.

Sophomore Year Classes

The Installer Course

Beginning with a comprehensive overview of a broadband cable system, this course provides the student with a working knowledge of the system from the signal sources to the customer premises equipment, while teaching the requirements for an installer. Specific references to more than 50 basic safety standards (OSHA and ANSI) as well as electrical codes (NEC and NESC) are made throughout the course, establishing a documented learning and training history for each student.

Junior Year Classes

Installer Technician

This course focuses on maintaing reliability in the installed drop system. The DC electronic theory provides the foundation for understanding decibles, signal leakage detection, and troubleshooting techniques. A basic mathematics review helps the student with equations and formulas relating to basic electronic theory and signal level. Also covered are topics on the features, components, care, maintenance, and use of signal level meters and signal leakage detectors, providing essential information for troubleshooting customer premises problems. The course concludes with the basic characteristics and functions of line extender amplifiers

Internships

At the end of this year, students compete for internships through individual achievements, interviews and other academic criteria to qualify in this field through partnerships with Cox Communications, Milcom Inc., Glaze communications and Hixart Technologies. After qualifying students will go to work every other day in their Senior year for on of our sponsors. This will allow them to gain valuable work experience, and earn income while working in their field of study.

Senior Year Classes

Broadband Digital Installer

It also teaches computer hardware and operating system setup basics. Students will learn what is involved in certifying the reliablity of the drop and how to perform the extensive step-by-step installation procedures. They also will learn how to effectively educate customers to use the new digital services. Detailed lessons cover both the basics of and installation procedures for twisted-pair inside wiring and constant bit rate telephony equipment.

Job and Career Opportunites
